Анте Гавальда народився 9 травня 1974 року в селищі Булонь-Біянкур на півночі Франції.

Він почав писати у віці 26 років, коли його друг подарував йому блокнот, де він міг записувати свої думки та ідеї.

У 2007 році вийшла книга "Я і ти" (англ. "Je l'aimais"), яка здобула популярність в більш ніж 40 країнах світу. Ця книга була першою, перекладеною на українську мову.

У 2014 році Анте Гавальда отримав премію Бретанської академії за свої твори.

У творчості А. Ґавальда зазвичай зображуються складні міжособистісні взаємини та долі звичайних людей.

Він також є автором дитячої літератури та коміксів.

Анте Гавальда активно використовує соціальні мережі, зокрема Twitter, де він часто ділиться своїми думками та ідеями зі своїми читачами
