Sea bats are unusual fish from the bat family of the Anglerfish order . The closest relatives of sea bats are shovel fish , haunax and sea clowns . Slightly more distant relationship in sea bats with other species of angler fishes . A total of 35 species of sea bats are known .

Sea bats are small or medium-sized fish , the maximum length barely reaches 20 cm . Their body structure is very bizarre , however , like all angler fishes . The first thing that catches your eye is the disproportionately large head , which is 20-40% of the body length , in some species its central part rises above the back line like a tank tower . On the front side of the head there is a tubular outgrowth in which a special trapping organ is hidden . It consists of a short stalk - illicium and a bait at its end - eski . The mouth of the sea bats is small , but it seems wide due to the fleshy lips . The body of these fish is narrow , and narrows to nothing towards the tail , therefore , sea bats resemble a giant tadpole in physique .
