This place later become known as an "invention factory," since they worked on several different inventions at any given time there. He had many assistants in his laboratory in Menlo Park near New York. They worked together on his inventions. Edison also organized some companies, some of them still work, like «General Electrics». Thomas Alva Edison made a great influence on modern life, because of his inventions such as a light bulb, a phonograph, and a motion pictures camera. He also improved the telegraph and telephone. Edison continued to work and invent till he was over 70, often working 16 hours a day! During his long and productive life Edison made 1,300 inventions. Edison also managed to become a successful manufacturer and businessman, marketing his inventions to the public. Edison died on October 18, 1931, at the age of 84.
