Dear Editor,

I am writing to share my experience in learning a foreign language, an endeavor that has been both challenging and rewarding. As a language enthusiast, I embarked on this journey with the hope of broadening my horizons and embracing new cultures.

Initially, the process seemed daunting. The intricacies of grammar, unfamiliar phonetics, and a multitude of vocabulary posed significant challenges. However, as I delved deeper into the language, I discovered the beauty of linguistic diversity and the richness it brings to communication.

One of the most valuable aspects of learning a foreign language has been the cultural immersion. Through language, I have gained insight into the traditions, customs, and nuances of a different community. It's like unlocking a door to a world that extends beyond words and grammar – a world filled with history, art, and unique perspectives.

Practical applications of the language have also been instrumental in my learning journey. Conversations with native speakers, language exchange programs, and immersive experiences have enhanced my skills and provided a real-world context to what I study in textbooks.

Technology has played a pivotal role in my language learning adventure. Online resources, language apps, and interactive platforms have made the process more engaging and accessible. Connecting with language learners worldwide has not only improved my proficiency but also created a global network of friends who share a common passion.

Despite the initial hurdles, the sense of accomplishment in reaching milestones and the joy of expressing myself in a foreign language have been unparalleled. Learning a language is not just about acquiring a new skill; it's about fostering connections, breaking down barriers, and embracing the beauty of linguistic diversity.

In conclusion, I encourage others to embark on the exciting journey of learning a foreign language. It's a transformative experience that goes beyond words – a journey that opens doors to new cultures, fosters understanding, and enriches one's perspective on the world.

Sincerely,

[Your Name]

Brussels Jazz Marathon
Since starting in 1998, the annual Brussels Jazz Marathon has been attracting people from all over Europe and as far away as Japan, in increasing numbers, year by year. Three days of jazz madness with jazz flavours to suit every taste: traditional jazz, modern jazz, rock, blues and funk. Over 450 musicians perform in outdoor and indoor venues around the city and all concerts are free. There are four outdoor stages – Grand Place, the Sablon, Place St Catherine, Place Fernand Cocq – and more than 50 indoor stages in clubs and cafes. Free admission is available on a ‘first come first served’ basis.

A special bus service is put on over the weekend. It provides a convenient, friendly service helping everyone get from one venue to the next and is the easiest way to move around the city and enjoy what’s on offer. The buses run from 20:00pm to 03:00am to cover the main Marathon event areas.

As well as concerts and performances, there is a huge dance event, ‘Swinging Brussels’, on Friday night. This event first took place in 2009 and has become very popular. It happens at La Tentation and is the place to be for dance lovers.

There’s something for the kids too. A mini Marathon that takes place on Saturday, all day, in Place du Sablon. On the programme there are stage concerts, music initiation, workshops, jazz make-up and a fun Milk Bar where all kids can enjoy milk and ice cream for free.

The event takes place over the last weekend in May each year and the city’s hotels fill up quickly. Independent travellers can book accommodation online from £34 per night. It’s wise to book early, to be sure of a room. Some travel companies offer all inclusive packages to Brussels for the weekend with prices starting at around £215 per person.

Getting to Brussels from England is easy. Visitors can either fly from London Heathrow with British Airways or from Bristol, Birmingham, Manchester or Newcastle with Brussels Airlines. Alternatively, there’s Eurostar departing from St Pancras railway station in Dartford, Kent.
