Biography of Marie Curie:

- Who she was?

Marie Curie was a pioneering scientist and the first woman to win a Nobel Prize. She made groundbreaking contributions to the fields of physics and chemistry, particularly in the study of radioactivity.

- When and where was she born?

Marie Curie was born on November 7, 1867, in Warsaw, Poland, which was then part of the Russian Empire.

-Family and early years:

Marie Curie was born as Maria Skłodowska to a family of educators. Her father, Władysław Skłodowski, was a physics and mathematics instructor, and her mother, Bronisława Skłodowska, was a principal at a Warsaw boarding school.

The Skłodowski family faced financial struggles after the death of Marie's mother and sister. Despite these challenges, Marie showed exceptional academic abilities from a young age. She graduated from high school as the top student and, despite her desire to pursue higher education, faced gender-based restrictions preventing women from attending universities in Poland.

In 1891, Marie Skłodowska left for Paris, where she enrolled at the Sorbonne, the University of Paris. She adopted the French spelling of her name, becoming Marie Curie. During her early years in Paris, she faced financial difficulties, often living in poverty, but her determination and passion for scientific discovery remained unwavering.

In 1895, Marie married Pierre Curie, a French physicist, and the couple collaborated on groundbreaking research on radioactivity. Their work led to the discovery of two new elements, polonium and radium. In 1903, Marie Curie became the first woman to win a Nobel Prize, sharing the Physics Prize with Pierre and Henri Becquerel for their work on radioactivity.

The early years of Marie Curie's life laid the foundation for her remarkable career, marked by groundbreaking discoveries and a commitment to scientific excellence despite societal and gender barriers.
