A similar distinction still exists today, for example, only people who have received special competencies can wear a priest’s cassock or a policeman’s uniform. Thus, clothing determines a person’s membership in a particular social group. The school uniform has a similar role, which identifies the child as a school student. Of course, at school, uniforms have a special purpose. The use of identical clothing by all students is designed to instill discipline and develop cohesion. After all, when schoolchildren wear a uniform, on a subconscious level they feel like they are part of a separate community.
