Багато років тому назад жили два брати. Молодший — бідний, а старший — багатий. Померли їхні батько й мати. Тоді менший брат став жити іще гірше. Старший брат забрав собі всю батьківську спадщину. Меншому братові не лишилось нічого. Жив він з дружиною у великих злиднях. Якось у молодшого брата не стало чого їсти, і вирішив він піти до старшого, щоб той допоміг йому. Старший брат відмовився допомогти. Тоді менший брат пішов ловити рибу, щоб зварити юшку. Того дня риба не ловилась. Йде він додому з порожніми руками, похнюпивши голову. І раптом бачить — на дорозі лежать жорна. Підняв він ці жорна і поніс додому. А вдома жінка питає:
