But do not be afraid: L.A. is less dangerous than, say, Washington. And even downtown you are perfectly safe – provided you stay in your car. Los Angeles is not only mobile city because of the large distances. It is still a town of adventurers as in the days of the Gold Rush. And adventurers have got to be flexible, ready to grab every chance that passes them by. Here, an ambitious young body builder from Austria is able to make the big time as mega film star and go on to become multi-millionaire. In fact, he has even managed to marry into the elegant (East Coast) Kennedy Clan. Even Angelenos who have only been in the city for a few weeks know that the streets are not paved with millions. Everything must stay in motion. If you stand still you are as good as dead; never-сeasing change is an everyday occurrence. Angelenos do not bemoan failures but simply discount them. All that counts is the future. And indeed, nothing seems to be impossible at this gigantic vanity fair. The Angelenos are passionate actors regardless of their class or ethnic origins.
