Східні слов'яни були язичниками. Середньовічні автори знали язичництво у період його розквіту, але залишили про нього дуже мало свідчень. Літописи згадують головних шістьох слов'янських богів: Перуна, Стрибога, Даждьбога, Хореса, Семирагла та богиню Макош. Згадуються також Велес, Сварог, Род і Рожаниці.
