An island is a piece of land (usually of natural origin) in an ocean, sea, lake or river, surrounded on all sides by water[1] and constantly rising above the water even at high tide[2]. The islands differ from the mainland in smaller sizes

The largest island in terms of area is considered to be Greenland, which is approximately three times smaller than the smallest continent - Australia. A group of sea islands located close to each other is called an archipelago (for example, the Malay Archipelago). A series of small islands stretched in one direction is called a ridge (for example, the Kuril ridge).

In the Solar System outside of Earth, the only known examples of islands are those on Saturn's moon Titan

Read the texts. 'I started collecting porcelain 'People collect different things like stamps or coins. I collect rocks and minerals. I started to be interested in rocks as a little child. My dad took me to the mountains a lot and I brought home the rocks I found. I still look for rocks but I also spend all the money I get from my parents on new minerals. I feel there is something magical about them. I like touching them and looking at them. Tom dolls when I was seven. My grandma didn't like my modern dolls at all and she gave me my first porcelain doll. I loved the beautiful face and the clothes. I got another doll from my mum and this is how it started. Now, all my family know I collect dolls, so I get a lot of them as presents. I sometimes buy some pretty ones on the Internet, but not very often. I've got over fifty dolls now anyway!' Jessica 'My collection is a bit unusual because I didn't really start it. My uncle decided to move to a different country and he gave away a lot of things. He gave me this album with stamps. It's big and very interesting. I haven't bought any new stamps: what I do is check and learn about the stamps that are already in the collection. They are not just stamps: they are history and this is what I'm really into.' Matthew Who ...?
