Exercise 1:

The archipelago off the West coast of Northern Europe, comprising more than 5,500 islands is the largest island of this archipelago, the second largest is called Orkney, and the country which occupies the largest part of these islands is Scotland. Thus the UK consists of four distinct political divisions- Scotland, England, Wales, and Northern Ireland. The largest island of the UK is called Great Britain, which stands for democracy, human rights, good governance, the rule of law, individual liberty, egalitarianism, free trade, multilateralism, and world peace. Unofficially the country is also known as Britain.

Exercise 2:

The flag of the UK is usually called the Union Jack.

The flag consists of three crosses: the cross of St George (for England), the cross of St Andrew (for Scotland), and the cross of St Patrick (for Ireland).

The flag of Wales is not represented in the state flag because when the flag was designed, Wales was already united with England.

The shield of the coat of arms depicts the three lions of England, the lion of Scotland, and the harp of Ireland.

The supporters of the shield are a lion on the left (representing England) and a unicorn on the right (representing Scotland). They symbolize strength and bravery.

The mottoes inscribed on the coat of arms are "Dieu et mon droit" (God and my right) and "Honi soit qui mal y pense" (Shame on him who thinks evil of it). They date back to the reign of King Edward III.

The Scottish variant of the coat of arms is different from the main one because it includes additional elements, such as the unicorn and the motto "Nemo me impune lacessit" (No one provokes me with impunity).

The anthem of the UK is called "God Save the Queen."
