The National Symbols of the USA
The national symbols represent pride and values of the country. There are many symbols that represent the United States of America. The flag of the USA is often called "Stars and Stripes". It has 13 hori- zontal stripes which stand for the 13 Bri- tish colonies that declared independence from the British Empire and became the first states in the Union. In the top left corner there are 50 white stars on a blue background representing 50 states of the country. The Great Seal is the national emblem of the USA. The bald eagle with stretched wings is pictured in the emblem. In the right claw, it holds an olive branch with 13 olives and leaves and in the left 13 arrows. The Great Seal is officially used on documents such as pass- ports and its elements are used in govern- ment agency and state seals.
