the young lady took me into the house. The first thing I noticed was that the hall was very dark and she had left a candle burning there. She picked it up, and we walked along more passages and up the stairs, and only the candle lighted us.
At last we came to the door of a room, and she said, 'There, boy. Go in.' And then she walked away - and took the candle with her.
This was very uncomfortable, and I was afraid. However, the only thing I could do was to knock at the door and a voice from inside told me to enter. I found myself in a fairly large room, lighted with candles. No daylight was allowed to get in. A lot of the furniture had shapes and uses that I did not recognise. But there was a table with a gold-coloured mirror, and I could see that it was a fine lady's dressing-table. 10
an armchair, with an elbow on the table and her head leaning on her hand, sat the strangest lady I have ever seen, or will ever see.

As I approached her, she looked up at me with a curious expression. Her eyes were dark and mysterious, and I couldn't help but feel a sense of unease. She stood up and walked towards me, her long dress trailing behind her.
"Welcome to my home," she said in a low, husky voice. "I have been waiting for you."
I didn't know what to say, but she seemed to know what I was thinking. "Don't be afraid," she said. "I have brought you here for a reason. You have a special gift, and I need your help."
As she spoke, I couldn't help but feel a sense of wonder and curiosity. I had always felt like there was something different about me, something special. And here, in this strange and mysterious house, I finally felt like I belonged.
"I will do whatever you need," I said, with determination in my voice.
The lady smiled, and I knew that my life was about to change forever. I followed her as she led me deeper into the house, ready for whatever adventure lay ahead.
