CHRISTMAS IN GREAT BRITAIN.

The New Year Day is not very popular in Great Britain. But Christmas is the greatest holiday. It is celebrated in Britain on the twenty-fifth of December. English children like it very much. Their winter holidays begin

before this date and are called Christmas holidays. It is a family holiday. Traditionally all relatives and friends give each other presents. On Christmas Eve people put presents under the Christmas Tree. When

the children go to bed, they put their stockings near their beds. They know that at Christmas night Santa Claus will come with his big bag full of presents and will put a gift into the child's stocking.

Every year there is a very big Christmas Tree in the centre of London, in

Trafalgar Square. This is a present from the people of Oslo, the capital of Norway, to the people of Great Britain.

Late in the evening many Londoners gather at the Parliament Square where Big Ben stands. They wait, when the Clock in Big Ben begins to strike twelve (at midnight).

Then the people in the square join their hands and sing a traditional song. This song is about old days and friendship among people. Everyone in Great Britain is waiting and enjoying this holiday very much!
