School children improve their social and communication skills, find new friends and learn to resolve conflicts. While homeschooled kids get less of such experience. To my mind, this is a disadvantage.
I believe that home schooling is suitable for very gifted children who are able to learn quickly and independently. The standard school curriculum is too easy for them and they just get bored in the classroom. But it is not a common situation.
Sometimes home schooling is not a matter of choice, but of necessity. Some children have health problems that prevent them from attending school.
