A. Romans did not eat breakfast. They were obsessed with digestion and eating more than one meal was considered greedy feeding. The medieval world was divided between a small number of wealthy aristocrats who enjoyed a hearty morning feast and a lot of peasants who didn't. By the 19th century, regular working hours were set up. Office staff began work later, after loading up with sausage, bacon, eggs, and toast among other things; the full English breakfast was born.

B. Below stairs in the homes of the upper classes, the cook would be consulting The Book of Household Management published by Mrs. Isabella Beeton in 1861. She provided all the necessities of life for the family upstairs. The appetites of the rich could not be satisfied by bacon, eggs, and toast. They needed something more to realize all the tasks of the day, such as counting the rent, playing snooker, and dozing in the chairs at the gentleman's club. So full English breakfast was one of the ways to solve this problem.

C. The English Breakfast Society is a learned society of fellows, dedicated to the tradition and heritage of the full English breakfast. It is headquartered in Hertfordshire, England. They are a non-profit organisation, staffed by volunteer English breakfast enthusiasts. They research the tradition and story of the English breakfast. They provide information, advice, and guidance to members of the public and journalists. Members of the society hold the title of Fellow. The only way to become a Fellow is to make a cultural contribution.

D. Some of the more exotic items have disappeared from the full English breakfast. Now essential ingredients are eggs (usually fried), back bacon, pork sausage, black pudding (blood sausage), baked beans, fried tomatoes and mushrooms, bread fried in the juices from the meat, and toast. The main reason people stay in English bed and breakfast establishments is the second "B." No B&B would continue in business for long if it only served stewed prunes and muesli. It's the massive load of grease and protein the guests are looking for.

E. The smell of bacon and eggs wafting through the kitchen may be enticing. But what are you doing to your health when you reach for the frying pan? What are the health dangers of eating the full English breakfast? If you eat it every day you could be storing up health problems for the future. With more and more Brits and Americans suffering from high blood pressure, there are some things you need to watch out for in the full English breakfast.

F. To British expatriates living overseas, the traditional full English breakfast will always taste like a little piece of England. Having full English breakfast they can enjoy its taste. British pubs in foreign countries everywhere have long offered a taste of home and a full breakfast to their customers. The traditional English breakfast is truly a national dish. It is not for nothing that people call it a British institution. The very best English breakfasts usually are served by mothers and made with love,

G. Even though the traditional English breakfast is served at family and social gatherings, it is culturally acceptable to ignore the other occupants of your table.
