Узнав о войне Маншук Маметова стала проститься на фронт. Она славная
дочь казахского народа ушла на фронт добровольцем. Маншук днем работая
в госпитале по вечерам осваивала станковый пулемет. Получившая
назначение в один из батальонов 21-й стрелковой дивизии она была
назначена командиром расчёта станкового пулемета. 15 октября 1943 года
немцы крупными силами атаковали одну из высот господствующих севернее
Невеля. В батальоне защищавшем эту высоту служила пулемётчица
Маметова. Тяжело раненная осколком в голову она продолжала бой.
Отважная девушка уничтожила в том бою более 70 фашистов. Подоспевшее
подкрепление нашло Маншук около пулемета умершей от потери крови с
пальцами мёртвой хваткой вцепившимися в гашетку пулемета. 1 марта 1944
года Маншук не забытой страной было посмертно присвоено звание Герой
Советского Союза.
