Hiv Lobachevsky Nikolai Ivanovich Lobachevsky was born in 1792 in Nizhny Novgorod. when the boy was nine years old, the family moved to Kazan. here Nikolai was assigned to the gymnasium "at the state expense". in 1807, 14-year-old Nikolai Lobachevsky became a student at Kazan University, which had opened only two years earlier. In 1829, the Kazan Bulletin magazine published Lobachevsky's essay on non-Euclidean geometry. in a review of him , the famous mathematician academician M. Ostrogradsky wrote: "the author, apparently, set out to write in such a way that he could not be understood. he achieved his goal: most of the book remained as unknown to me as if I had never seen more"
