In 2004, masked gunmen entered the Munch Museum in Oslo and stole two paintings by Edvard Munch, The Scream and Madonna. As the thieves were escaping, a passer-by took a photo of them, but the police didn't catch the thieves straight away. In 2005, Norwegian police arrested 4 suspects, but they didn't find the paintings. Over the next 12 months, the police was searching for the paintings and eventually they found them in 2006. Despite being damaged, the paintings went on display in 2006 for five days. Then the restorers were working on them for the next two years to repair the damage​
