The two islands are separated by the Irish Sea.
3)Among the most important rivers in the UK is the Thames, which flows into the North Sea. Its length is 346 km and it is the deepest river in Britain.
4)The tallest mountain in Britain is Ben Nevis (1,345m) in the Highland region of Scotland.
5)The union jack flag is made up of the Saltire of St Andrew for Scotland, and St Patrick for Ireland — a saltire is the heraldic name for the diagonal cross-look — together with the cross of St George for the Kingdom of England.
