William Shakespeare is the greatest English poet and playwright. He wrote 36 plays among which were tragedies, comedies and histories. Common themes in his comedies were mix-ups. Life was hard during Elizabethan times and Shakespeare's plays were performed at the Globe Theatre in London. There was hardly any scenery, but there were fantastic costumes and even special effects.
