Omar likes going to the mountains. Last year Omar visited his relatives in the Almaty region. He wanted to go to the mountains. His grandparents told him to take care of himself and to listen to the weather forecast before going to the mountains. Sometimes in the mountains natural disasters happen like an avalanche and landslide.
Omar was ready to go to the mountains but at night the weather became worse and it was raining heavily. Omar stayed home because after the heavy rain it was unsafe to go to the mountains. Heavy rain causes landslide danger. Last year a group of tourists went to the mountains after heavy rain and was caught in a landslide. A mass of rock and earth was moving suddenly and quickly down the mountain. They were lucky not to hurt themselves. Going to the mountains you should know about avalanche and landslide dangers and follow safety rules.
The Almaty region is located in a seismic active zone and that is why sometimes earthquakes happen. On 3rd January 1911, a terrible earthquake in Almaty destroyed many buildings. The day before everything was quiet. At night, when the people were sleeping, a terrible loud noise woke them up. The walls and the floor began shaking. It was scary. The people ran out of the house and rescued themselves. Now the architects design the new houses to protect them from earthquakes.
Natural disasters can happen in any place. But we should be careful and protect ourselves from natural disasters.
