По обе стороны от экватора устанавливается область пониженного давления, которая вместе с Солнцем перемещается между Северным тропиком и Южным тропиком по сезонам года. Над 30-ми широтами и полюсами расположены области повышенного давления, а между ними — в умеренных широтах — давление низкое.
