Christmas was coming. Harry decided to stay at school for Christmas holidays. Ron stayed at school too. But Hermione went home for Christmas.
Harry didn’t expect to get any presents for Christmas, but he did. It was a wooden flute from Hagrid, a sweater and a box of home-made fudge from Ron‘s mom, a note with a £.50 piece from Uncle Vernon and Aunt Petunia, and an Invisibility Cloak. Harry didn’t know who was the invisibility cloak from. But the letter pinned to it said, that previously it belonged to his father.
The night after Christmas dinner Harry decided to go to the school library. He wanted to find out anything about Nicholas Flamel in the restricted section. He put on the Invisibility Cloak and went off the dormitory.
It was spooky at the restricted section. Harry heard whispering coming from the books and thought they knew someone was here who shouldn’t be. He took a large volume and opened it. It screamed loudly. Harry knew that Mr Filch would come soon because of the scream, and decided to leave the library. He had a lamp with him, but in a rush he had broken it. Filch didn’t see Harry under his Invisibility Cloak but he found the broken lamp. Filch found professor Snape in the school corridor and told him, that some student was awake, because he found a broken lamp in the restricted section of the library.
The corridor was narrow and Harry was very close to be found. He squeezed through the first door, that was ajar, to hide from Professor Snape and Filch. It looked like an unused classroom. There were desks and chairs pilled against the walls. And also there was a magnificent mirror. Harry stepped closer to the mirror and saw his own reflection with two figures reflected behind him. He nearly screamed from surprise. It was a man and a woman. Harry turned around to see this people, but there were no one in the classroom. But when Harry turned back to the mirror they still reflected in it.
Harry looked closer at this people. Finally he guessed, that they were his mom and dad. They existed only in the mirror.
The next day Harry told Ron about his adventures in the library and about the mirror. They decided to go together the following night and find this mirror again.
When the night came, they put on the Invisibility Cloak and went off. After a while Harry recognised the classroom he spent in the night before. The mirror was there.
Ron was curious to see Harry‘s family, so Harry moved to the mirror and reflection of his family was there. But Ron didn’t see them. He asked Harry to step aside and moved right in front of the mirror. But he didn’t see Harry‘s parents. He saw himself, but different. He was older, Head Boy, and was holding the house cup and the Quidditch cup.
Harry and Ron where arguing very loud because of everything they saw in the mirror. Suddenly they heard some noise outside the corridor. Ron threw the clock back over them, and they saw Mrs Norris came round the door.
To their relief the cat didn’t see them. After the cat went off, Harry and Ron moved back to the dormitory.
The next night Harry went for the mirror again. It was the third time Harry saw it. And this time Dumbledore joined him. Dumbledore told Harry that the mirror was the Mirror of Erised. “It shows the deepest, most desperate desire of peoples hearts.” said Dumbledore. And he asked Harry not to go looking for it again.
Before they left for sleep Harry asked Dumbledore, what he used to see, when he looked in the mirror. Doubledire replied that he saw himself holding a pair of thick, woollen socks, because every Christmas he used to get books for presents, but he never get enough socks.
