Ein junger Arzt hatte sein Studium beendet und begann zu praktizieren. Da saß er in seinem Arbeitszimmer und wartete auf Patienten. Auf seinem Schreibtisch stand ein neuer Telefonapparat, der aber noch nicht an das Netz angeschlossen war.
Es klingelt: Der erste Patient. Die Sprechstundehilfe, ein junges Mädchen, führt den Besucher ins Wartezimmer. Um zu zeigen, wie beschäftigt er ist, lässt der Arzt den Besucher ein wenig warten. Dann empfängt er ihn. Um einen noch größeren Eindruck zu machen, nimmt er den Telefonhörer ab, wählt eine Nummer und sagt : „Guten Tag, Herr Kollege. Ich wollte Sie bitten, mir Ihren Patienten erst morgen zu schicken. Ich bin heute beschäftigt. Aber eine Behandlung bei mir teuer ist. Sie kostet etwa 500 Mark. “Nach ein paar Worten legt der Arzt den Hörer wieder auf und wendet sich mit einer Entschuldigung an seinen Besucher: „Entschuldigen Sie, dass ich Sie warten ließ, aber Sie sehen , wie beschäftigt ich bin. Was führt Sie zu mir?
Der Besucher, ein Mann von bescheidenem Aussehen, hat dem Telefongespräch erstaunt zugehört. Er antwortet dem Arzt: „ Ich komme vor Postamt, ich wollte Ihr Telefon ans Netz anschließen".
