Казахское ремесло имеет довольно древнюю историю. Подтверждением этому являются вещи бронзовой эпохи, которые были обнаружены при раскопках.

В народных промыслах в прошлом преобладало именно валяние войлока, которое связано со скотоводческим хозяйством. Этим войлоком утепляли стены, застилали пол. Казахи также издавна умели выделывать кожу животных, а также их шкуру (шли на пошив одежды). Они вели полукочевой образ жизни. Они в это время использовали войлочные чемоданы, различные сумки, покрывала, которые предназначались для хранения вещей и одежды, для продуктов. Эти предметы выполнялись с украшающими элементами.

Были ювелиры-серебряники, которые могли выполнить все виды украшений. Они украшали также серебром, а обработка дерева была одним из ремесел, которые считались развитыми.

Стоит также отметить важность деревообрабатывающее ремесло. Оно обеспечивало людей различными предметами, которые использовались в повседневной жизни и хозяйстве. Главным изделием был каркас юрты. Из дерева изготавливали купольные жерди, обод-навершия, двери.

Конечно, многие деревянные предметы, например, такие как двери, требовали украшения, а украшали обычно резным орнаментом. А это уже отдельное другое ремесло.

Казахи делали деревянную мебель, такую как лари, шкафы, шесты-вешалки, кровати и даже посуду.

Кроме того, в некоторых землях требовалось обрабатывать землю и обмалывать урожай, а это все требовало изготовления орудий.
