The используется когда мы говорим о какой-то особенной вещи,например ваза,которую я купил,ваза,которую она подарила и т.д.Мы должны знать что-то о ней чтоб поставить the.

А когда просто говорится в общем о какой-то вазе,о которой мы ничего не знаем добавляем "a/an".
