Потому что семья Левонтия была не похожа на другие семьи в деревне. Мальчика там кормили и вслух жалели сироту. Он ещё не понимал, что настоящая любовь проявляется не в пьяном жалении, а в делах. Истинное отношение Левонтьевых к мальчику проявилось в том, когда дети оставили его на лугу с пустой корзинкой без земляники
