From reading the reviews it would seem a lot of people feel the need to compare The Clink Prison Museum to the London Dungeons. Clearly people are confused as to what a 'museum' is. I visited The Clink today with my kids and was not at all surprised at what I found: informative, highly illustrative and interesting history - what you'd expect at a MUSEUM. Considering they're limited for space, they've done a good job of getting in as much information as possible, without making it too overwhelming. In fact, being quite small and underground certainly adds to the atmosphere; you almost feel you're a prisoner yourself! Sure, if you come looking for a scary, thrilling experience, you won't receive that at The Clink; there are no live actors or surprises, just waxworks, genuine archaeological artefacts and real history (and a couple of furry friends thrown in that kept my kids occupied!!!). In fact I was rather moved by some of the stories detailed in the museum, something which was impossible at the London Dungeons due to all the performances, thrills and distractions. Yes the London Dungeons are a laugh (you'd hope it would be given its price), and I guess it depends on what you're into. Some people prefer entertainment, some people like good old fashioned straight-forward education. All I know is that for £7 (£9 if you purchase the recommended guide book - a highly informative supplement to what's inside) you receive a thorough and detailed display of England's gruesome past. In my eyes, definitely worth a visit!
