а если серьезно: павел чичиков приехал в деревню, решил провернуть аферу - скупает у помещиков/чиновников их крестьян, которые по документам все еще считаются живыми. ходили слухи о его богатстве, он был популярен у девушек, но после небольшого дебоша пьяного Ноздрева на приглашенном балу, он удаляется, и слухи переворачиваются вверх дном - что он является разбойником, пытался увести дочь губернатора, заставил Коробочкину соглашаться на аферу и тд. В итоге он, обедневший уезжает.
