In order to check how well the pupils of the 2nd grade have learned new words a teacher decided to use a game. The book was Family and Friends 2 (Lesson 1. Our new things). The game is called ‘board race’. The teacher randomly divided pupils into 2 groups. Then the teacher wrote a topic (things in the classroom) at the top of the board and drew a line in the middle of it. Now the task for children was to come and write as many words connected with this topic as they could remember. The team that has a larger amount of correctly written words usually wins. As it turned out, the first team won easily. They had 14 correct words compared with 5 in another group. Moreover, only active students who were better at English had participated. Shier students preferred to remain passive.
