Золота порохівниця місяця, вистромившись із-за могил, порошила трави голубим пилом, і здавалось козакові, що там, у степу, ворушиться щось, іржуть чиїсь коні, і вже не рокотання бандур чути звідти, а ледве вловимий передзвін шабель [чути], і не сиділося старому, не їлася йому саламата. свербіла рука до шаблюки, до бою кликало серце.

Золота порохiвниця мiсяця, вистромившись iз-за могил, порошила трави голубим пилом. I здавалось казаковi, що там, у степу, ворошиться щось. I ржуть чиïсь конi, i вже не рокотання бандур чути звiдти, а ледве вловимий передозвiн шабель . I не сидiлося старому. Не ïлася йому саламата. СвербIла рука до шаблюки, до бою кликало серце.
