Для удобства человека, т.к. не каждому хочется вводить для входа на какой-то сайт писать IP-адрес, запоминать его, а DNS-сервер помогает как раз таки с этим и дает нам писать названия сайтов.

DNS система нужна для обеспечения правильной работы доменов,которые отвечают на запросы о вашем домене.Иными словами это структура которая распределяет запросы между разными серверами.
