The artist wrote it according to the Russian national fairy tale "Sister Alyonushka and Brother Ivanushka". But the real girl inspired it to writing of this picture.

In a picture I see the sad girl. She sits on a stone near a pond and longs. At Alyonushka the sundress is torn and hair are uncombed. Likely she long ran on dark in search of brother Ivanushki. Prickly branches clung to her hair and clothes, disturbing it searching.
