Рождествено. Между тем солнце садилось, и очень скоро стало совсем темно. Брат начал жаловаться, что ему холодно и он устал, и он помог ему сесть верхом на собаку, единственного члена экспедиции, который был все еще весел. Брат в полной тишине все свалился с неловкого коня, и, как в страшной сказке, лунный свет пересек черные тени придорожных гигантов-деревьев. Вдруг слуга с фонарем поймал нас, посадил на бревно и поехал домой.
