The history of blue jeans

Levi Strauss was a respected businessman in San Francisco; he had a big store. He sold all sorts of products including clothing, bedding, and tools. However, Levi is best known for starting the company Levi Strauss & Co., the first company to make blue jeans.

In 1872, Levi Strauss was approached by a tailor named Jacob Davis. Davis had invented a new way to make durable pants for workers. Davis needed help to make enough of them. Strauss hired Davis and began to manufacture the new type of pants in volume. These new pants were made of material called denim. The denim was blue in order to hide dirty stains. The pants soon became very popular. There is no need to explain what "Levi's" or "blue jeans" are now. Jeans have become an important part of our daily outfit.
