О каких общечеловеческих проблемах рассказал Николай Васильевич Гоголь в повести «Шинель»?

Тема маленького человека – главная в произведении Гоголя "Шинель" и сквозная во всем цикле "Петербургские повести". В центре повествования – мелкий чиновник Акакий Акакиевич Башмачкин. Живет в нищете, выполняет самую мизерную роль на службе и постоянно терпит унижения со стороны окружающих. Имя Акакая с греческого переводится как "смиренный", что отражает характер самого героя. Покупка новой шинели для него – попытка приподняться над привычной ему действительнотью и заставить окружающих проявить к нему большее уважение. Но кража шинели возвращает все на свои места: маленький человек – это судьба. Ограничен, прежде всего, внутренний мир Башмачкина, в нем не находится места для больших целей и желаний, он в любой одежде остается мизерным. И в этом и есть главная проблема, которую исследует Гоголь. В ограниченности маленького человека, которая не дает ему выйти за рамки. И даже моральная-этическая проблема презрительного отношения к маленькому человеку отходит в проблематике произведения на второй план.

17 век в Западной Европе - эпоха чрезвычайно динамичная, бурная,противоречивая.Современники окрестили этот век "вывихнутым временем". В 17 веке постоянно проливалась кровь:завершение революция в Нидерландах, Тридцатилетняя война,революция и казнь Карла первого в Англии. Свирепствовали эпидемии и голод, но в 17 век так же был веком открытий и великих достижений. В зареве костров инквизиции уже виделась эпоха Просвещения. Чем вы объясните эту двойственность 17 века?
