Racing along country roads and ( 1 ) the cities of France each year, the best bicyclists in the world take part in the Tour de France. In 1903, the race was held for the first ( 2 ) as a publicity event for the newspaper, L ’Auto. It was an instant success. Every July since then, the race has taken place. The Tour de France is divided into different races for each day, called «stages». Each stage is also a different style of bicycle racing. Sometimes the terrain is flat, so the race is a sprint.
