Arkhangelsk is a very old city. It was founded in 1613. In 1693, Peter I founded a shipyard here. The city is located at the White Sea in the mouth of the Northern Dvina. Due to its favorable geographic position, Arkhangelsk became the economic center of the Russian North.

Previously, houses and sidewalks were made of wood, but now it is a big and beautiful city. In Arkhangelsk there are theaters, museums, educational institutions. The Arkhangelsk seaworthy school is one of the oldest in the country, it was founded in 1771. The population of the city is about 700 thousand people.
