Anna Pavlova was born in St Petersburg, Russia, in 1881. She decided to be a dancer after she visited the ballet one day as a child. At age 10, she entered the Imperial Ballet School. She worked very hard there and in 1910, she started performing at the Metropolitan Opera House in America.

Afterwards, she travelled around the world performing. When she was not on tour, she lived in England with her many exotic pets! Anna performed in many famous ballets, such as Swan Lake. She died in the Netherlands in 1931.
