Vladivostok is one of the most beautiful cities in Russia. It was founded as a military outpost to defend the Eastern border of Russia in 1860, when the Russian naval transport «Manjur» anchored in the Bay that was later called the Golden Horn Bay. Now Vladivostok is the largest city in the Russian Far East and the administrative center of Primorye. Its population is about 700 000. It occupies the whole tip of the Muravyov-Amursky Peninsula. Vladivostok has got a monsoon climate. In wintertime there is almost no snow in the city while in summertime thick fogs move on it and give way to practically non-stop rains. Only one-to-five territory of the city is built -up, the other part is occupied by forest-park. In the forest-park of the city you can see a lot of rare and relic plants and trees. There are some southern and northern types of the plants which grow there without interfering with each other: cork tree, cedar, aralia, eleutorococcus, lime, maple and others. Naturally, the port is the heart of Vladivostok. A great many of the ships arrive here every day. Businessmen and journalists, specialists and ordinary people of Japan, the Republic of Korea, China, Australia, the USA, Canada and Europe are visiting Vladivostok more and more often. Vladivostok can be proud of its students. There are a lot of higher educational institutions in the city. The Far Eastern State University is one of the them, the oldest and the biggest institution in the Far East. A highly-qualified staff of professors and teachers help the students to become good specialists in all the fields.
