Russian folk festivals
Recently, the custom of celebrating Russian folk holidays is reviving in Russia. Most of them came from a confluence of religious festivities with ancient pagan traditions.
Shrovetide is the week before the Lent, when, according to Orthodox rules, you can not eat meat anymore, but you can do everything else, therefore, all 7 days in a row the housewives bake pancakes and serve them with caviar and fish, with sour cream and honey, make pancakes or wrap in Pancakes different fillings. Religious traditions are superimposed on the ancient pagan feast of winter's wake and the meeting of spring, in accordance with the meaning corresponding to the European carnival. All week there are folk festivals, concerts, and the festival ends with the burning of stuffed carnival and forgiven Sunday. Pancake weekdays are celebrated all over Russia, but most of the tourists are attracted to celebrations in Moscow, Yaroslavl, in the Vladimir region - in Suzdal, in the Tver region - in Toropets, and also in the Altai, where a special "Siberian carnival" is held.
