Огромное значение обезьян как лабораторных животных. По очень многим анатомо-физиологическим признакам обезьяны (не только человекообразные, но и низшие) обнаруживают вполне понятное сходство с человеком. Они подвержены многим свойственным человеку заболеваниям (например, дизентерии, туберкулезу, полиомиелиту, дифтериту, кори, ангине, СПИДу), в общем протекающим так же, как и у человека. Приматов и их органы используют для изготовления вакцин.
Высшие приматы участвовали в космических программах США и России. Огромно число зоопсихологических экспериментов, проводимых с участием обезьян. Недавно выяснилось, что высшие приматы способны разговаривать (их способности к освоению языка жестов были известны уже несколько десятилетий),
