Kaliningrad Amber Museum is located in the city of Kaliningrad. The decision to create the Museum of amber was made in 1969 .. At the same time it has been determined under the building - "Tower of Don" with Rossgarten gate. Amber Museum was established in Kaliningrad because nearby, in the village of Amber, is the largest (of the explored) field Baltic gem - more than 90% of world reserves. In the ten years since 1969 was a process of restoration of historical and architectural complex. The first phase of the Amber Museum was opened on 29 December 1979 in the status of a branch of the Kaliningrad Regional History and Art Museum.
