Vladivostok
Hello, everyone! Welcome to Primorski Region! We will start our tour from Vladivostok International Airport. On our way to Vladivostok, I will give you some general information about the region and the city.
Vladivostok is often called the gem of Russia's Far East. It is the capital city of Primorski Region (also known as "Primorski Krai). The city which stretches for more than 30 kilometres from north to south was founded in 1860. In 1860, the construction of Vladivostok port began on the shore of the Golden Horn Bay. The city's location determined the nature of its development: Vladivostok originally used to be a military base and international trade centre. In Soviet times, it was a partly-closed military city. so not everyone could visit it. Today, however, Vladivostok is one of the most important international trading centres of Russia and Asia,
Now we are approaching Vladivostok. If you look around, you will see a lot of Asian shops, cafes and restaurants. This is because Vladivostok is the closest city to Asia. There are plenty of Chinese, Korean and Japanese people here working, studying and travelling. Most people living in Primorski Region travel to Asian countries. It takes less time for a local to visit China or South Korea than to travel to the European part of Russia or to Western Europe. Holidaymakers also go to Thailand, Burma, or Vietnam.
In winter, they leave for the south to enjoy the beaches, islands and jungles, but they always come back home.
Due to the development of tourism in Vladivostok, its most picturesque street,
Admiral Fokin Street, has become pedestrian. We are passing it now, take a look around. It's a very cosy area.
To the left, you can also see one of the few pre-revolutionary Catholic churches in Russia - the Catholic Church of the Most Holy Mother of God. Another interesting sight is St. Nicholas Cathedral (1900s) to your right. As you can see, its roofs are similar to Chinese architectural style. Now we are approaching Russky Bridge. It's one of the most famous sights of the Far East. It was built in 2012, but it has already gained popularity with tourists and locals. It crosses the Eastern Bosphorus Strait and leads to Russky Island. Do you know what the island is famous for? Well, it's home to the Far Eastern Federal University, one of the largest universities in Russia and the world. The classrooms are equipped with up-to-date teaching aids, including smartboards, computers, plasma TVs, etc. Besides the University. Russky Island is a popular destination for nature lovers and holidaymakers.
Primorye is one of the most unusual and appealing regions of Russia. It is a wonderful area to explore and get new impressions. You may see plenty of big and small ships, boats and yachts. Yachting is one of the popular summer activities in Vladivostok. There are several yacht clubs in the city. You can hire a professional crew to sail along the coast, or take lessons to handle a vessel on your own.
So, we are arriving at the hotel where you will be staying during your tour. You have time to unpack your luggage and relax after the flight. I will meet you at 6 pm. in the lobby to take you to the Egersheld Lighthouse
