Алексей Венецианов – известный русский живописец. Удивителен тот факт, что не получив художественного образования, ему удалось стать влиятельным художником и даже создать собственное направление в живописи. Крестьянская жизнь интересовала художников и ранее, но именно Венецианов стал изображать крестьян с любовью и нежностью. Быт крестьян, их тяжелый труд мастер в деталях переносит на полотна.Одна из картин Венецианова крестьянской тематики «Крестьянские дети в поле». Сюжет прост, незатейлив, представляет собой обычную ежедневную ситуацию – две девочки приносят обед, работающему в поле пастуху. На полотне перед зрителем предстает летний день. Классический деревенский пейзаж встает перед глазами: сочная зелень поля, уходящая вдаль, линия горизонта, поросшая деревьями, и нежно-голубое, почти прозрачное небо.Детские фигурки написаны крупно, они приближены к передней раме полотна. Дети одеты бедно, но аккуратно и чисто: светло-серые одежды подпоясаны тонким пояском, на головах у девочек платки голубого и ярко-синего цветов. Обуты дети в простые лапти. Привлекают и очаровывают зрителя отношения между детьми, явно видная нежность и любовь. Старшая девочка робко, со стеснением протягивает хлеб пастуху. Вторая девочка, стоящая позади, нежно обнимает вторую за плечо и кладет на нее головку. В руке у девочек корзинки, что говорит об их неустанном труде и помощи родителям. Выражение их лиц безмятежно.Также спокоен и пейзаж вокруг, он словно дышит безмятежностью. Лишь несколько овец из стада нарушают эту тишину. Несмотря на обыкновенность событий, описанных на полотне, и их регулярность, вся картина оставляет необычайно теплое впечатление, своим лиризмом она проникает прямо в душу. Картина, написанная в 1820-х годах, хранится в Санкт-Петербуржском музее.
