Задание 1. Прочтите и переведите текст на русский язык.
Sports and Games
Are you interested in sports? All of you played sports games at school and at college, for example, volleyball, basketball, or football. People who do sports are sportsmen. The sportsmen who play games are players.
Players make teams and play matches with opponent teams – their rivals. Players from one team are partners. Each team can lose or win. A number of sportsmen in the teams can be different. For example, there are 11 players in each team in football. They try to score as many goals as they can. Professional matches take place in the stadiums.
Athletics is the most popular and available sport. People call it ―the queen of sports‖. It comprises such kinds of events as running for different distances, throwing the javelin, discus or hammer, shot put, relays, high, long, triple and rope jumps, decathlon, jogging and others.
The best sportsmen gather and take part in various regional, continental, national, preliminary, international and world championships or races. In each event, representatives of various countries can win gold, silver and bronze medals there. The Olympic Games are the most prestigious competitions for the athletes. The Games take place once in every four years. Only the best athletes may take part in them.
The most ancient games are dated by 776 BC in Athens, Greece. The original sports were running, jumping, wrestling, horse riding, throwing the discus and javelin. Only men could take part then. The first modern Olympiad started in Athens, Greece in 1896. Chamonix, France hosted the first winter games in 1924. The games are organized every four years. The summer games take place in leap years, and winter games are organized in two years after the summer Olympiads. The Olympic Games were not held only during the World War I and II. Russia hosted the Olympic Games twice. In 1980 Moscow was the capital of the 22nd Summer Games. In 2014 Sochi hosted the 22nd Winter Games. The last Summer Games took place in the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro, and Winter Games took place in Pyeong Chang, South Korea in winter 2018. The next games will take place in Tokyo (Summer Games in 2020) and Beijing (Winter Games in 2022).
There are so many kinds of sports – winter sports, summer sports, outdoor and indoor sports, in which you can take part or be a devoted fan.
