1) My mom grew up in Poland, and lived here I think she was until 19 or 20. And then my dad has Poland roots too. He was born in England, his father grew up in Krakow, and in the second world war he was drafted into joining the German army, but he was unwilling, it was either to die or to comply with Germans, so, he did not want to be here when the Communists came back, so he ended up in England. My mom and my dad met in England and when my dad found work in the United States they moved to the US. At first it was very complicated life for my parents there, they did not speak English and did not have the appropriate education to find a wonderful job not to be hungry or anything.

2) My mother speaks fluent Polish, but in our house we spoke English because my dad’s father did not teach him Polish because he did not think that Poland will be a free country. So he did not see any reason and his wife was German so they spoke among themselves in English, my Mom spoke a tiny little bit of Polish to us, but not much. But I was exposed to the Polish culture a lot, my mom made a lot of Polish cooking at home, we came back in most summers for a month or two. I came here, I have seen it, I liked it, I have a lot of relatives here, actually in the US there are only my father, my mother, myself, and my older brother, my younger brother.

3) I decided to come here because I did not really like my university in the States, I wanted to try something different, it was a way to get a better understanding of the language, and what life would be like in Poland. I had been here only during the summers, at it was a whole different thing to come here for a year. In the US I did a year at the University of Texas, my tuition was around 50 thousand dollars a year, and this is quite cheap in terms of US colleges, a lot of friends that I know take out loans I would say 68 thousand dollars for one year, so it is not even a question, the US degree is not even worth it, it is better to get a vocational education, it is a lot cheaper and you can go to work a lot quicker. And here it is significantly cheaper, I still have to pay because I take some of my classes in English, I have only one course in Polish right now, so now it is for the year 2000 euros, it is not comparable at all. So, it is a huge part of why I want to continue my education here.

4) Living in Wroclaw is relatively inexpensive. If you do not have family members to support you, well, it depends on how you live, I think if you are really just in Wroclaw, studying and living in the dorms where the rent is sufficiently cheap, if you share a room, then yes, but beforehand I worked for about two and a half years at a restaurant and since I lived at home I saved a lot of my money, I did not need to spend it, when I came here I had about 4000 dollars and then the stipend and then I lived very nicely living in the dorms and going out, and even traveled to Barcelona to see my friend. I think that the stipend money is of decent amount.
