In Russia we have birthday parties at weekends. We never celebrate birthdays before our exact birth date, as this is considered bad luck. Birthday parties are attended by close friends and family. They all give presents to the birthday person.

We decorate our homes with balloons or birthday garlands.

Birthday menus include a lot of salads, some fish or meat dishes and a birthday cake or fruit pie.

At birthday parties children often play games and sing special birthday songs. One traditional Russian game involves the guests singing about preparing a karavay, which is a type of round bread.
