Таня - главная героиня, она горда, словно знатная дама, совершенно не похожа на других людей. Она любит примерять украшения из малахитовой шкатулки, многие люди ее побаивались, но только она знала секрет шкатулки. Шкатулка оберегала Танюшку. Хозяйка Медной Горы забрала к себе ее и сделала своей подругой, потому что отец Тани не смог сделать свой каменный цветок. Бажов напомнил о тяжелом труде добытчиков подземных богатств в Урале
